Löwenzahnkind

A documentary about children of addicted parents

Verein Löwenzahnkinder
Verein Löwenzahnkinder Winterthur, CH

Project Overview

Children of addicted parents are stigmatized for life, socially disadvantaged and often stand alone. From birth, they are responsible for the sick parent or both, keep the family together and raise younger siblings. Despite social help with out-of-home placements, foster families, children's homes, etc., these children experience terrible things. Often violence, physical and verbal abuse and rejection are repeated.

With your support we can make an important contribution to direct help to those affected. It allows us to carry out a film production with the necessary professional support, to make the film available to a wider audience in several languages and to build a website, which enables additional reach and direct support for the association Löwenzahnkinder.

The documentary film "Löwenzahnkind" will be available free of charge on the Internet and will be used for training and information events.
It will also be shown as part of the 'Action Week for Children of Addicted Parents' of the organization Sucht Schweiz.
The main goal is to help the Association Löwenzahnkinder gain more reach and financial resources to provide direct assistance and a point of contact to even more affected individuals.
The film accompanies Jasmin in various conversations and confrontations with affected people, addicts and family members. She is affected herself and founded in 2020, together with Michelle Halbheer (author of the book "Platzspitzbaby") and Sara, the association Löwenzahnkinder, based in Winterthur, where affected children and adolescents can find direct help.

A main cinematic component will be a road trip to Portugal, where Jasmin will meet her father for the first time since 2019 and talk to him about his heroin addiction and that of her mother. On the trip, she will tell her story and process the filmed interviews.

With her commitment, she is taking on a pioneering role and wants to use the film project to educate, inspire and support those affected.
Scientists and experts will also have their say on the subject of addiction: self-inflicted vs. disease.
The topic requires great sensitivity. Where necessary, the narrators are anonymized and their identities are not published. It is of great concern to us to accompany and protect all persons involved emotionally, which is why we are in direct contact with specialists and professional organizations.

Nevertheless, the film should be close to reality, touching and stirring. There are various forms of help for those affected, but unfortunately it is still far from sufficient! Often, despite competent experts, the necessary networking and mediation is lacking.

There will be an own website, where you can watch the film for free, with the possibility to support the association directly.
All proceeds from cinema and DVD sales will be donated 100% to the association Löwenzahnkinder.

The project is led by Jasmin (mediation, supervision and participation), Katharina S. Kadler (producer) and Jan Sung-Kyu Kroeni (production, script and direction).

With your support, we can complete the film by the end of 2023 and thus make an important contribution to improving the situation for affected children, youth (and adults!). In addition to the film production, the donations will enable us to subtitle the film in several languages, produce a DVD/Blu-ray and build a website for promotion purposes.

Thank you very much!

We from the association Löwenzahnkinder have grown up in families with addiction problems ourselves.

We know the challenges and the feelings that are associated with it. Our own experience is our great potential. We would like to use this to support those affected.

As a freelance filmmaker, I am responsible for the production of the film. The topic of addiction and its consequences is actually well known. But the stories and fates of children and adolescents of addicted parents are less talked about. These must absolutely be documented and made public, only in this way can the situation change and improve for those affected!

Children of addicted parents find it difficult to form secure and trusting bonds. I am shocked and affected by the extent of the consequences these children face in adult life. As the producer of this film, I want to bring attention to this hidden issue so that those affected can receive more direct help and care.

The documentary should show my story, with many low blows and difficult situations that have shaped my development and my behavior, without pointing the finger at others. I hope for a better cooperation among professionals and affected people in the future, I wish that this topic finds its place in our society and is no longer taboo. By pointing out the dark side of the children's homes in the 90s (the 10 worst years of my life), I would like to encourage others affected to open up and seek help.

I hope that through this film our work as an association will be seen and supported even more.
