Successful conservation plan in danger of getting stuck

Project Overview

Plan G Mexico has been working successfully since October 2023 to protect Mexican goodeid fishes. It is supported by many stakeholders who are currently investing in nine individual projects. However, basic costs are hardly taken into account, and as our two vehicles in use are already old, we need to renew or expand our fleet in good time in order to be able to manage all projects. The support will be used to purchase a truck to close this gap.

Libreta "Skiffia por siempre"
A unique notebook (16 x 10.5 cm, 15 sheets) with the cover made of handmade paper from the invasive water hyacinth (Pontederia crassipes) - this is conservation in perfection! The motif with the name "Skiffia por siempre" by Mexican artist Adriana Arellano Tinoco was designed for Día de los Muertos 2022 and shows a male of the Golden Skiffia (Skiffia francesae) in an open hand, which symbolizes the fragility of this species and that its survival is in our hands. It illustrates the change of hand and fish from death on the back cover to life on the front cover with the hand releasing a tiny Skiffia back to the wild. This is the symbolic depiction for Día de los Muertos, symbolizing the transition of this species, which is extinct in nature, from death to life. The reintroduction project for this species was officially launched on November 1st 2022 and is ongoing. Additionally, a visually appealing digital thank-you certificate with the name of the boostering enthusiast as a pdf is sent by E-Mail and the name of the enthusiast is painted in black letters in alphabetical order on the car under “The purchase of this vehicle was made possible by the following enthusiasts”. Marcador "Mexclapique Mariposa"
A bookmark (5.5 x 14.5 cm) made of high-quality paper with a print of an original watercolor by Mexican artist Adriana Arellano Tinoco. The picture shows a male Butterfly Splitfin (Ameca splendens), painted after a live fish from the Cuquita spring near Teuchitlán, Jalisco. This beautiful species is Critically Endangered according to the IUCN Redlist and part of the conservation efforts of Plan G. Colores de la Mesa Central
The "Mesa Central" is the Mexican name of the central highland of Mexico where the majority of our species occurs. In this category we have limited edition prints (5 designs, two prints each, numbered with 1/2 and 2/2) in A4 format on high-quality paper. The prints are based on original watercolors by Mexican artist Adriana Arellano Tinoco and each one depicts one species. There are only two prints of each of the five motifs, making this a limited edition that will not be reproduced, as the originals are no longer in the artist's possession. The boostering enthusiast can choose between the five different motifs as long as they are available. With this print will be sent a bookmark (5.5 x 14.5 cm) made of high-quality paper with a print of an original watercolor by the same artist. Grabado "La Chegua"
This extraordinary Good(eid)ie is a copperplate engraving in almost A3 format by Mexican artist Adriana Arellano Tinoco and shows the Bulldog Goodeid (Alloophorus robustus), known in Mexico as ‘La Chegua’. The copperplate prints are numbered by hand from 1 to 60, 25 are available for this category. The photos added show a finished print alongside the printing plate and the original fish. The fish species itself is widespread in central Mexico, but very rare where it occurs and has already disappeared from many places. In central Mexico, it is considered a symbol of the inadvertent disappearance of fish species and a target species for conservation purposes of a private conservation project in Lake Patzcuaro. Everything has been good(eid) so far, but here it gets even better: 25 unique original watercolors of various Goodeid species in A3 format by Mexican artist Adriana Arellano Tinoco. These watercolors are unique pieces, so boostering enthusiasts will be given the opportunity to choose in the order of their donation.
