Project Overview
We want to create a space where dance enthusiasts - professionals or amateurs - can meet and enrich the practice of their art through these exchanges. Thus, we wish to establish a dance studio in Geneva that which will serve as a meeting venue, host our activities - conferences, workshops - and will welcome in optimal conditions Romandie artists who need a place to create or rehearse.

Stage 1:

The floor of our premises is bare concrete. In order to dance there, we need to acquire:
- a double sprung floor (essential to preserve joints from shocks)
- dance mats (to avoid slipping or burning our feet when spinning)
- bars
- mirrors (indispensable to the work of dancers!)
- special cleaning and maintenance products for the dance mats -
Stage 2:

Step 2 will allow us to pay for the installation of double sprung floors, dance mats, mirrors and bars by professionals.
This will ensure we have a well leveled floor, perfectly fixed mirrors and solid bars to lean on! -

Achieving step 3 is crucial so we can install a toilet!
The users of the srudio will be grateful, as they will avoid regularly interrupting their work to go pee at the local coffee ;-)
To ensure their comfort, we also want to install a shower so that they can wash after spending long hours dancing! -

Goal of step 4: Make the studio functional!
This step will allow us to build walls to separate the bathroom and changing room from the working area and thus guarantee the privacy and comfort of users :)
We will also be able to install a sound system - to dance, we need music! - improve the electrical installation so that the working area is properly lit and buy cleaning equipment: vacuum cleaner, brooms, mops, bucket... -

Step 5: Make the studio salubrious by:
- painting the walls: they are currently displaying an ugly, dirty greyish color as well as many stains
- installing a ventilation system for exhausting foul air

The last step necessary to realize our dream: turn this ugly warehouse into a heavenly place where users will be happy to come and dance! With this last step, you will offer us: - the equipment for the changing room: coat hooks, benches, curtains...- warming-up and stretching equipment: yoga mats, blocks, massage rolls and balls, elastic straps...- storage spaces- material for a the resting area: table, chairs, a kettle ...
In Romandie region, the artistic potential in the field of non-academic dances is greatly diminished by the fact the majority of local institutions that finance artistic activities related to dance give support for to classical and contemporary style dancers only.
Costs related to the creation and production in other styles are therefore largely at the expense of the artists. Rental rates of a dance studio with mirrors are 50 CHF per hour on average in Geneva area. Therefore, one day of choreographic work represents an investment of several hundred francs.
In addition, the availability of these dance studios depends on the regular classes that are given, which complicates the organization of rehearsals or or special events such as worshops.

In order to allow a wide audience to enhoy the benefits of dancing, the association Akhtar wants to establish partnerships with various institutions in Romandie and co-create workshops around dance for their beneficiaries.

Akhtar is a Geneva-based non-profit association founded in November 2018. Our name is a Persian word meaning both "star" and "good luck".
Our goals are: the dynamisation of Romandie cultural panorama through the organization of workshops and events; the development of scenic, visual and plastic arts; the creation of networking opportuities for artists and the promotion of synergies and artistic exchanges.
We structure our activities around three pillars: 1) the organization of workshops and public events, 2) the support to artists in the field of scenic arts 3) activities for people with specific needs.

We are a group of artists brought together by a common love for dance. We develop artistic projects related to oriental dance, flamenco, Tahitian dance, kathak, Persian dance, tribal fusion or ATS®. Our dream is to break the codes and prejudices around non-academic dances in order to allow a wide audience to get to (re)discover, as well as making dance accessible to anyone who wants to practice it.
