Imagine being part of a project that creates real, sustainable change. With your help, a stylishly designed tourist accommodation is being built in the middle of the beautiful Cambodian countryside - with a clear goal: to ensure the long-term, independent financing of the local COSD school.
The most important person in my project is Son. He is the founder and director of the school and I lived with him and his family during my 2-month stay in Prey Thmei, a small village in the north-wester of Cambodia, while I taught English at his school. I was treated as a family member, with all rights and responsibilities. He showed me how to cook Cambodian food, ride a motorcycle according to local traffic rules, took me to weddings, funerals and every family gathering.
Son told me about his childhood, how he grew up while the "Khmer Rouge" ruled the country and killed 3 out of 8 million Cambodians, including his father and sister. When Son was 5 years old, he also lost his mother in an attack on the family home as they fled in different directions and from then on he was on his own. He struggled through his life until he finally found shelter, education and support in a monastery at the age of just 11. He lived as a monk until he was in his mid-20s and was able to go to school and study. Son has managed to put his dark past behind him and look positively to the future. And he has a dream: to ensure education for everyone, including the poorest, so that nothing like this can ever happen again. He wants the children and young people in the village to make the leap out of poverty. Into a self-determined, independent and financially secure future.
He earns his living as a tour guide. Whenever possible, he is at the school himself, which he founded and has been running for 16 years. He teaches English, looks after the children and takes care of the maintenance of the school building and the surrounding area. The construction of authentic wooden bungalows next to his school promotes the industry in which he works professionally and combines his two passions, tourism and education, in a unique way.
Son has inspired me in every way and I have decided that I want to help him spread the word about his passion project and enable him to realize it. I am sure that this project will reach people with an eye for meaningful investment. It offers an extraordinary opportunity to be part of an initiative with a lasting impact.
What makes this project special?
- Sustainable social economic development -
The tourist accommodation is deliberately designed in such a way that it not only works in an ecologically and culturally responsible way, but also provides economic impetus for the region. Jobs are created, local supply chains are strengthened and the income flows into meaningful educational work.
- Independent financing of the school -
Instead of being permanently dependent on donations, the school becomes independent in the long term thanks to the profits from the accommodation. This provides planning security, strengthens local responsibility and makes the school crisis-proof.
- Scholarships for former pupils -
Whenever possible, additional scholarship programs should be made possible for particularly talented and committed graduates of the school - so that they can study at university, which their families would otherwise not be able to afford.
Help shape a better education, a stronger regional economy and a brighter future for the children from Prey Thmei village.
