an oasis for art
in the vibrant metropolis of Dar es Salaam
Project Overview
We dream of a space for artists in Dar es Salaam where we can meet, develop our talent and pursue artistic projects. There will be children's painting courses, workshops and neighborhood events and we will have a platform to network with artists worldwide. To make this dream come true, we need your support!
For these artists who dedicate themselves fully to their passion we want to create a place where they can develop their talent and establish a sales opportunity in the form of an online gallery.
In addition, courses for children and young people from the neighborhood are offered three times a week and a neighborhood event for example an exhibition takes place every last Saturday of the month.
With 5,400 francs we can finance the operation of the art center for at least 6 months. Every additional Swiss franc will give us more time before we have to find follow-up financing.
Tansarts aims to support Tanzanian artists and promote Tanzanian art. The association is according to Swiss law tax exempt.
We work together with the Tanzanian art collective Tansanaa, consisting of the members Leonard Mwanga, Martin Peter Mgimbe and Mkamah Abijan. They will establish and operate the art center. All three are dedicated to fine arts and bring various skills (photography, printing technology, graffiti, etc.) to the table. Thanks to their many years of voluntary work as drawing teachers, Martin Peter Mgimbe and Leonard Mwanga also have a lot of educational experience with children and young people.
Together with Aida Jaganjac and Anne Bächtold-Husi I run the Tansarts association unsalaried. I have been traveling to Dar es Salaam for some months every year since 2021 and I am friends with the artist collective Tansanaa, which will run the art center. I will closely support the establishment of the center on site.
