Hello, my name is Protas Ngawayasi and I am reaching out today to ask for help to build a sustainable farm for me and my three siblings: my two sisters and my brother (ages 10, 7 and 5). With a farm, our family can have a sustainable future. I know how to farm, I know the land we need and I already know how to buy all of the right seeds and equipment. All that we need now is the funding.
Our father died in 2018, and a few months ago in 2025, our mother was taken by cancer. She needed a lot of medical care before her death, which left some debts that we are still trying to pay off. At the time, I was studying to become a priest in the local seminary but stopped my studies and began to work so that I could support my siblings, who now live in an orphanage.
Right now, I work with a group of fishermen. Each day we go out, make our catch, sell the fish, and share the profits. As a result, I earn around 2 dollars a day. On days when I earn more, I try to send the money to my siblings in the orphanage. If there is extra time, I cut firewood and make charcoal to sell.
My main worry is that my siblings will also become sick. The orphanage relies on donations, and it simply cannot cover medical costs. This is why one of our main goals is to get medical insurance cards so that I can feel assured that my siblings will be cared for.
And so, as I’m sure you can understand, it is very hard to save enough money to pay for our debts, to get medical insurance, and to buy a farm that will allow us to get out of this situation, and not need to be in this situation in the future.
With a farm, we can make a sustainable and profitable family business. It will allow me to bring my siblings out of the orphanage. Then, we will be able to work together to grow and sell food. I will also be able to teach them everything I know so that they will have the skills they need to support themselves.
When our debts are finally paid, and our farm is finally secure, maybe after some years, God will allow me to re-enter the seminary and continue my life as a priest. Many people need priests here in Tanzania, and I would like to be able to minister to them. However, I must support my family first, and either way, I am just trying to do whatever I need to do.
We will all be very grateful for anything that you can give.
