Beit el Baraka runs elegant free supermarket in Beirut, which makes people in need feel they are “shopping”, not seeking charity. The Azar family cultivate a garden in the hills of Beirut. They produce amazing organic fruits and vegetables, but they are struggling selling. Boosters pay the farmers products, he delivers straight to the free supermarket. Lebanese struggle through economic collapse and the devastating explosion of august 4, 2020.

With your help we harvest fresh organic vegetables & fruits directly from a small producer and deliver them (5km distance) to the "Free Supermarket" of Beit el Baraka in Beirut. With this you support the farmer as well as the organization Beit el Baraka and with that many people who are economically not well off.
In February 2019, Beit el Baraka opened an elegant free supermarket based on a system of points which makes the members feel they are “shopping”, not seeking charity. They want them to choose their products because giving someone the freedom of choice means giving them dignity. They prohibit the use of plastic bags in their premises, and they work to recycle all packaging that does not comply with the rules of the association. Jute bags are distributed to all families.

A devastating explosion in the port of the Lebanese capital Beirut hit the entire city catastrophically. The explosion destroyed large parts of the port and caused damage to large parts of the city. At least 207 people were killed and more than 6,500 injured. More than 300,000 people had to leave their homes.

In 2005 I traveled to Beirut for the first time, it was love at first sight. The people, the climate, the food, skiing and swimming in the sea, melting pot between East and West. Unfortunately, the positive, almost euphoric vibe could not last. Politically and economically the country is down. People's money has almost disappeared, the devastating bomb of August 4, 2020 has caused (another) deep trauma, Corona does not make things better. Despite everything, the Lebanese have not lost the courage to live and their joy. And they still have the best food :)
