Project Overview

Your support can change a life. We are raising funds to provide a scholarship for a young Ugandan student, giving them the opportunity to attend university and build a career. By supporting their education, you are improving not only the lives of the students but also the lives of those around them, as they will be empowered to contribute to positive, impactful change.

The total education costs are CHF 6,500 (including tuition and examination fees for six semesters, learning materials and accommodation).

Since 2007, UECD has enabled 33 students to attend university who would not otherwise have been able to do so. These students are now working as doctors, teachers, lawyers and in many other professions, using the skills they acquired to have a positive impact on the Ugandan community.

Now it's time to give the next young Ugandan this opportunity. Help us to change someone's life by enabling them to study, and help the next generation of Ugandans to build a brighter future.

We are aiming to raise CHF 6,500 to fund a three-year bachelor's degree for one student. The scholarship will cover the following average costs per student for the entire program:

• Tuition and exam fees: CHF 3,250
• Study materials: CHF 1,300
• Housing costs*, healthcare and other emergencies: CHF 1,450
• PC: CHF 500

*Note: Students who can live with relatives will not receive funds for housing.

We partner with two prestigious universities in Uganda, Makerere University and Kampala International University, which are known for their high-quality education and attract students from all over the world.

Thank you for your support!

At UECD, we believe that education is key to breaking the cycle of poverty. We support motivated young Ugandans who lack the financial means to continue their education, enabling them to complete higher education and build independent, long-term careers.

The impact extends well beyond one student. Graduates support their families, become role models in their communities, and help create lasting social and economic change. Through careful student selection, local oversight, and transparent use of funds, UECD ensures that every contribution has a real, measurable impact.

One education. One opportunity. A future changed for many.

Ugandan Empowerment & Career Development (UECD) is a non-profit organisation that supports disadvantaged young Ugandans, particularly women and young people from rural areas, in completing their tertiary education and starting their careers. Founded in 2007, UECD operates in Uganda and Switzerland and provides scholarships to students in Uganda who would otherwise be unable to study. By empowering students to build independent livelihoods, UECD creates a lasting positive impact on families and communities across generations. After graduating, alumni stay closely connected to UECD, supporting new students through mentoring and leading local initiatives.

I have been on the UECD board for a year, enjoying working with both the Swiss and Ugandan teams. Together, we are excited to continue helping young Ugandans transform their lives through education and giving them the opportunity to have a positive impact on the Ugandan community.
