Project Overview

As a result of winning the Swiss Art Awards competition, we are building the Pavilion for the SAA exhibition within the Hall 1 of Messe Basel, during Art Basel 2023. The object, made by a simple plane surface is essentially a canopy occupying the centre of the exhibition hall. Representing one of the main gravitating point, the Pavilion will be the stage for social action and it will host all the daily and special activities during the event.

The installation consists in a metal surface supported by the existing structure of the Halle Messe Basel. A counterweight system stabilises the structure in order to create the space underneath. The project intends to show a meaningful space with the minimum use of elements. Achieving this goal requires a great deal of spatial, structural and material research, as it is a completely unconventional approach and outside standard solutions.
The project is the result of close collaboration between us designers, a local craftsman, and a brilliant young engineer. We're seeking support to compensate the few employees working on the project, cover research costs, and invest in higher quality materials and construction technology.
We're committed to promoting sustainability and ensuring that the object or its materials could have a new life once the event is over. Furthermore, we're exploring different scenarios such as transporting the installation to a new context or reusing materials for new constructions, and for this your support is essential.
