On July 11, we want to facilitate the exchange between more than 1000 people at Helvetiaplatz, in Zurich, to promote tolerance, mutual understanding and living together. For this purpose, a monument is created in an artistic way in which you can participate, too!

The process of gentrification and the effects of the real estate appreciation of Zurich are pervasive. The resulting consequences are oppression, repression and intolerance towards certain groups of the population. In order to strengthen the multiculturalism and tolerance of Zurich, it is essential to support the exchange between people from different community groups. We use art as a means to to promote these values and the interaction between people.

"ŠTO TE NEMA" or translated "Why aren`t you there?" is a nomadic monument that uses the genocide in Srebrenica (Bosnia and Herzegovina) as a symbol to remember what people can turn into if they do not reflect soon enough. Together with the local diaspora communities, it wants to set a signal against repression, oppression and violence by promoting a dialogue on these topics between different groups of people with the local population. This exchange promotes tolerance, mutual understanding and living together. So far "Što Te Nema" has already taken place in 12 world cities.

"ŠTO TE NEMA" is an art performance that creates a monument of coffee cups throughout the day. Currently the monument consists of ~ 7000 Bosnian coffee cups "Fildžan" and will be larger this year by other donated cups. The art performance is defined in a way that volunteers engage in dialogue with the local population of Zurich, while filling the cups with coffee. No one drinks the coffee. Each cup symbolizes a victim of Srebrenica, who can no longer drink the coffee because he is no longer among us. (title "ŠTO TE NEMA" or "Why aren`t you there?").
In addition to the many working hours of the project team, financial resources are also needed to realize the project. Part of the funding was secured. However, another amount is still necessary. With your support, the most essential things such as transport costs, camping stoves, gas cartridges, coffee and catering for volunteer helpers will be financed.

Our partner, the Swiss Charity Foundation "La Terra Nostra", is tax-exempt and thus you will get a confirmation of your donation, upon request.

"ŠTO TE NEMA" is not a project of a single individual, but of all of us. In other words, you are a part of it by joining us at the Helvetiaplatz on July 11th and by filling with us with a Fildžan, by distributing information about the project to your friends, by contributing financially and by volunteering for the day.

For more information about volunteering, feel free to contact me.

I am Austrian-Bosnian citizen. About two years ago I was traveling in Bosnia and Herzegovina and other countries to discover that, what I was denied to do when I was 10 years old: to get to know the traditions, culture and language of my country of birth.

One of the stations was New York, where we met Aida and the project "Što Te Nema". We knew immediately that we wanted to bring "Što Te Nema" to Switzerland, the country that welcomed us about 7 years ago, to facilitate and promote the Swiss-Bosnian exchange.

I look forward to an open and pleasant dialogue with you!

I am an American-Bosnian artist, where the fate has brought me from Bosnia to New York. There I work mainly as an artist trainer.

The desire to use historic moments in Bosnia as a symbol to foster a dialogue between the people and thus develop the respect and the understanding for each other, has inspired me to found "Što Te Nema". Everything started in Sarajevo in 2006 and the project then took place in 11 other cities.

I am looking forward to meeting you in Zurich!
