In Switzerland, we operate as an association, and locally we are a non-profit organization. Our base is the community center "Djunta Mon" on the Cape Verdean island of São Vicente, in the city of Mindelo in the Ribeiro Bote neighborhood. The center employs five local full-time staff members, led by the co-founder and coordinator.

We regularly welcome volunteers from all over the world to support our projects.

Since 2020, we have been dedicated to improving access to extracurricular educational programs and recreational activities for disadvantaged children and youth in Cape Verde. Our center on São Vicente offers free homework assistance, tutoring, recreational activities, and summer courses.

We bridge the gap between school and home, working closely with schools to ensure our programs reach those who need extra support. Our dedicated team of teachers enhances the educational and career prospects of these children, actively contributing to the reduction of social inequality.

In Cabo Verde, children spend half a day in school. Those who can afford it pay for an additional half-day of private tutoring, as the regular school hours are often insufficient to cover the entire curriculum. This extra support is crucial for keeping up with the national curriculum and securing good chances for higher education or vocational training. For children and youth with learning difficulties and multiple challenges, additional tutoring from educational professionals is even more essential.

We are 100% funded by donations and grants, with all our resources directly supporting local operational costs:

Covering the operating expenses of the community center:
- rent, water, electricity, and routine maintenance.
- Salaries and insurance for local staff.
- Educational materials, recreational supplies, and other consumables.
- Maintenance and renovation of infrastructure.

For the upcoming school year, as we expand to accommodate larger classes, we urgently need funds for renovations, minor construction, and new classroom furnishings, as well as essential school materials. Your donations will directly support these crucial efforts and ensure that all students have an optimal learning environment. Together, we can make a significant impact on the education and future of these children.

Our center has become a benchmark in the national education landscape, providing a safe space for learning, recreation, play, and intercultural encounters! We offer secure and fair working conditions for our local staff and support local tourism providers by involving them in our volunteer activities.

Currently, 54 children come to our center daily for homework support, tutoring, and creative and sports-related recreational activities.

Evaluations from the last school year (2023) highlight our success rate: on average, about 84% of the 51 participants successfully completed and passed the school year!

Our local teaching team at Djunta Mon says:
‘Some of the students initially came with behavioral issues, but over time, they have integrated well and are now adapting better in social contexts. They also show greater commitment to their studies.’

President association Switzerland

Since 2020, I have been deeply committed to the social project "Djunta Mon" on the Cape Verde Islands. Since 2023, I have been leading this Swiss-Cape Verdean cooperation project as the president of the association. My passion for this project is based on the firm belief that education is the key to a better future.

Through my travels and work in the tourism sector, I have developed a deep connection with Cabo Verde. Despite the challenges they face, many young people demonstrate remarkable resilience, great drive, and significant potential.

Education opens new perspectives for children and young people, provides them with the necessary tools to realize their dreams, and empowers them to actively contribute to the development of their communities.
