Our goal is to promote sustainability by involving the local community in construction with bamboo materials, as well as in the activities in our eco-friendly community resort. Renovation of three cottages that were affected by the two last heavy rainy seasons. The cottages are built with bamboo, arecanut wood, mud, ferrocement and stone. Once the cottages are renovated they can again be rented out to guests. This will give many of the people of our local community an additional income such as cooks, guides, drivers, artisans, yoga teachers, Ayurvedic doctors and artists. The renovation works are done by local bamboo artisans and craftspeople.

Besides the renovation works, we will also be finalising our multifunctional hall. This is built combining sustainable materials with innovative design. The novel building design with sustainable materials is inspiring and is built by local artisans and craftspeople. The hall will be used for activities with our community for our guests and local people.

We will be able to finalise all the renovation works, the multifunctional hall as well as a staff quarter, which provides an infrastructure for the people working in the Uravu Bamboo Grove Resort and a space to stay for drivers. The staff quarter will be built with bamboo and mud exploring a new design, taking into account the sustainability and stability of the building.

Wayanad is a green paradise nestled among the mountains of the Western Ghats, which form the border of the State Kerala in southern India. Uravu Eco Links Ltd. is situated among the greenery of Wayanad. We are committed to three principles: eco-friendliness, community involvement and innovative design. The Uravu Bamboo Grove Resort is one of our projects, which promotes eco-friendly community tourism in a bamboo forest in Thrikkaipetta village. It has helped to increase the tourist footfall and it provides an additional source of income to the local community. Local people are involved in many of the resort’s activities, such as cooking for guests, acting as tour guides and drivers, participating in art programmes, giving cooking classes, or painting and handicraft classes to guests, management and maintenance of the resort. The construction is done with bamboo by local artisans and craft people. We have also been pioneering the local waste management initiative in the village.
While still trying to recover from the consequences of the Kerala flood, which occurred in 2018, the community was hit hard by the pandemic of 2020. Reduced tourism has led to loss of income for many families. We are continuously working on ways to support the community and to open up new opportunities that will help them to overcome the current difficulties. Tourism in Kerala is starting to recover and we are already getting many requests from potential guests. Unfortunately, we first have to renovate the buildings, which were damaged during the last two monsoons. By renovating and further developing the Uravu Bamboo Grove Resort we can help people to regenerate their income.

Uravu Eco Links Ltd. is renovating and rebuilding the Uravu Bamboo Grove Resort, which will provide the local people with the infrastructure they urgently need to revive tourism in the village. The resort is operated by local people and creates jobs and opportunities in the village and surrounding areas for around 90 families. The existing small shop owners, bamboo artisans and artists will be able to sell their products again once the renovations are completed, thereby gaining direct market access and new opportunities to earn income.
