The J. S. Bach Foundation is dedicated to promoting and spreading the music of Johann Sebastian Bach. Through high-quality performances, musical education programmes and interdisciplinary projects, the foundation aims to preserve Bach's cultural heritage and interpret it in a contemporary way. Close collaboration with renowned artists and experts results in unique concert and educational experiences that appeal to people of all ages and backgrounds.
I have been working for the J. S. Bach Foundation since 2011 and am responsible for publishing and web, among other things. Last year, we organised a concert tour in Switzerland with an appealing programme combining Bach's cantata BWV 27 ‘Wer weiß, wie nahe mir mein Ende’ and Brahms' ‘Ein deutsches Requiem’ op. 45, performed on historical Romantic instruments. The result was a unique concert project that built a bridge between the two great masters and focused on the musical exploration of the themes of death and consolation. The recording of the project has just arrived. The finale – the highlight of the tour – was recorded live in the acoustically superb St. Johann Church in Schaffhausen on 5 November. The result is a high-quality recording that beautifully captures the energy and spontaneity of this live concert with soloists Ana Maria Labin (soprano), Jan Börner (alto), Sören Richter (tenor) and Peter Harvey (bass). This recording deserves to be heard by a wider audience, which is why we are crowdfunding the release of a CD.
